OHs get one back for last year's result and then drank a few beers!

Good morning Boys,

As the dick of the day it's my honour to give you the match report for our Friday night lights game.

The Old Haileyburians Wanderers' clash with the Guildford Vets unfolded like a gripping drama on the rugby field, where each pass, tackle, and try added a new chapter to the unfolding story. From the kick-off, the teams engaged in a ferocious battle, each player determined to leave their mark on the game.

Special mention needs to go out to Hammer that stepped up to play hooker for the full match, a true club man.

The first unexpected twist in the tale occurred when Chris Mostert, in an earnest attempt to make his mark, unintentionally found himself awarded the "Dick of the Day." His moment of pure idiocy injected a welcome dose of humor into the match, embodying the camaraderie that defines the unique spirit of rugby.

With the Wanderers initially trailing, Piesy, renowned for his flair, stepped into the spotlight. With a display of skill and finesse, he danced through the Guildford defense, leaving defenders in his wake. His burst of speed culminated in a try, and Fergus extended the lead with a brilliant conversion. The Wanderers now led 7-5.

Both teams displayed a lack of clear dominance, with players offering tips and advice on the intricacies of rugby rules to the referee. However, just before the second half, misfortune struck as Ben suffered a dislocated shoulder due to an unfortunate tackle.

The Guildford Vets seized the opportunity, earning a penalty try, and Hayden found himself on the receiving end of a yellow card. In his defense, the complexities of a maul might be a foreign language to a back. The Wanderers now found themselves behind at 12-7, but the setback only fueled Aussie Matt's determination. A powerhouse on the team, he bulldozed through the Guildford defense, scoring a try that echoed with pure strength.

Fergus, ever the opportunist, exploited a moment of lax defense, slipping through and catching Guildford off guard with another try. The scoreboard now favored the Wanderers, and as the game approached its conclusion, Dev, perhaps in an attempt to earn the "Dick of the Day" award, dropped a crucial pass with a massive overlap.

Undeterred, the Wanderers rallied. Spilsbury, showcasing his "undeniable" vet’s status, received a beautifully timed pass from Chris and ran an excellent line to score under the posts untouched.

The final whistle blew, and the Old Haileyburians Wanderers emerged victorious with a scoreline of 26-12. The match had been a rollercoaster of skill, power, and humor, with moments that would be recounted with laughter and camaraderie for years to come.

Post-match, beers flowed freely, and the Guildford Vets, true to their reputation, proved to be gracious hosts both on and off the pitch. It was a day that celebrated the very essence of why everyone plays rugby.
