OHFRC 41 – 26 Teddington
OH blow away Teddington in their first home game
OH arrived at fortress Ruxley Lane looking to forget the memories of last week’s game. On arrival the sun was shining, the pitch looked pristine and after a quick warm up, an air of excitement began to build about the first home game of the season.
The match got off to a flier with OH pinning Teddington back in their own half, with an aggressive defence which would be a continual theme throughout the game. Soon the pressure paid off with Clarkey, I believe, sliding through to dot down over the whitewash.
This would be the beginning of an excellent 40 minutes for OH, with new Aussie Jack going over for his first try, getting on the end of a filthy offload by Clarkey. Beyond scoring early in his first OH performance, Jack spent the whole first half deleting Teddington for fun.
Unfortunately, halfway through the second half saw the assault of JB, OH’s 9, who was decked by a well-timed Teddington tackle. Fortunately, this would not affect OH and they continued their performance, scoring two more liquid tries before the end of the half. Backs moves were flowing, shots were being thrown, the lineout was on point and most importantly the bonus point was secured before half time.
So came half time, where OH agreed they couldn’t let Teddington back into the game and it was time to put it out of sight and enjoy the second half.
However, this did not happen, with OH immediately letting in two tries within the first 10 minutes. The problems where then worsened by Owain being unfairly yellow carded, as he did nothing wrong, apart from play the ball on the floor in front of the posts. Teddington immediately got their third try a minute into the sin bin.
Down to 14 men and letting in unnecessary tries, some may have felt like a repeat of last weekend could have been on the cards. OH did the opposite, responding by scoring two tries of their own during the sin bin. One of which came from an unreal offload from number 8, Matt R, to George F who had made a big impact since coming on.
With the OH back in control of the game, the result was secure but not without some last-minute drama. George F managed to secure himself OH’s second yellow card of the day, for an accumulation of pens, ending the match.
An all-round performance from the OHs, getting through the grit at the beginning of the second half and showing huge promise for the season to come.
After a performance like that, it was too hard to pin Man of the Match on one player so therewere a few honourable mentions. Aussie Jack first game was fantastic, he smashed in defence, big ball carrier in attack and managed to get a try. George F was an instant impact from coming on off the bench, dipping and diving and securing a try or two. Last but by no means least, Olly B was immense in both attack and defence also, I believe, grabbed himself a try.
