Old Haileyburians set up an end of season promotion decider with London Media after seeing off Reeds Weybridge 28-7 at Whiteley Village.

The visitors started in ominous fashion, attacking menacingly in the opening exchanges, with Jonny B and James York both denied tries inside the first ten minutes through last-gasp Reeds tackling.

Eventually it was Ben De Fig who got proceedings underway as he slotted two penalties early on, putting the away side six points ahead. That lead was increased when Chris Potter wrestled his way through the Reeds defence on the half-hour mark, De Fig added the conversion making it 13-0 to the away side.

OH continued to stick to coach Wood's game plan of fast press defence and building multiple phases in attack which was causing real problems for the home side. The old school midfield partnerships of Peter Clarke, Rob Petherick and Chris Potter were linking up brilliantly breaking holes all over the defence. Combined with the physicality of Dan Partington, Hugo Lough and Matt Thorogood at the breakdown made it impossible for Reeds to get their hands on the ball.

Clarke broke the line late on in the half to feed potter to again got over the whitewash to take OH in on top at the break.

In the 58th minute the game was still in the balance, with Reeds scoring to make the scores 20-7 and OH had two players sin binned.

Some solid line-out jumping and leadership from Tom Fairlie in the pack allowed OH to retain the upper hand. A great all round team try was finished off through the dancing feet of Tom Jewel wrapping up the point and giving OH the gap they needed at the top on the league.

MOM: Peter Clarke

DOTD – James Wilson – Giving jip to an “away fan” after a try that turned out to be Thorogood’s old man.

OH will travel to London Media this week with a place in Surrey 2 up for offer.
