A finely fought match v Chipstead results in a 20-12 win for OHRFC, the fifth consecutive win of the season!

In a riveting clash between OHRFC and Chipstead, spectators were treated to an exhilarating display of rugby prowess and occasional comedic mishaps.

The game kicked off with a burst of energy as Chicken threads a lovely grubber through the Chipstead line with Thomas chasing and dotting down. Thomas swiftly converted to put OHRFC ahead 7-0 in the opening 5 minutes. However, the enthusiasm was short-lived as Chipstead retaliated with ping-pong kicks and a successful charge down, resulting in a tied score of 7-7 by the 15th minute.

Regrettably, Johnny Parr dislocated his shoulder during the build-up to the try, prompting an early appearance for OHRFC club captain Harry Clesham, who notably delivered an exceptional performance throughout the game.

The match continued to be a see-saw battle with OHRFC showing strong determination, evident in their good drive up the pitch and some impressive line-outs led by Matt Gilbert, earning us a penalty and a narrow lead of 10-7 by the 20th minute. The intensity heightened as Chipstead, after persistent pressure, managed to break through OHRFC's defenses, scoring just before half-time, bringing the score to 10-12.

The score stirred up controversy, as it seemed to be held up with an OH hand clearly beneath the ball. Despite this, the referee, eager not to look like an absolute mug, stood by the decision and awarded the try. Henry Trimmer, incensed by the referee's abhorrent call, engaged in a heated exchange, resulting in a yellow card just before the break.

Entering the second half, OHRFC's Thomas showcased his skill once again, securing a crucial penalty to regain the lead at 13-12 by the 45th minute. The momentum continued in OHRFC's favor as Wrighty's impressive Ben Earl-like run paved the way for Jack Kelly's determined prop-like pick-and-go, extending the lead to 20-12 by the 55th minute.

A forgettable moment unfolded for me in the 65th minute as a slippery chip from Chicken just eluded touch. I activated the afterburners, swiftly maneuvering around their winger, and attempted to make a play on the ball. Despite what appeared to be a clear try, my dive ended in a complete miss of the ball. Fortunately for OHRFC, Archie Hancock was present and skillfully grounded it, thereby extending the lead to 27-12.

Chipstead, refusing to go down without a fight, launched a valiant pick-and-go maneuver, bringing them closer with a score of 27-17 by the 75th minute. As the clock wound down, OHRFC showcased their defensive prowess, with great goal-line stands, denying Chipstead any further scoring opportunities.

Ultimately, the final whistle blew, sealing OHRFC's fifth consecutive victory with a final score of 27-17, leaving the spectators thoroughly entertained and eagerly anticipating the next exhilarating encounter on the rugby field.
