A fired up 2nds aim for an win their 2nd league match in a row to go top of the League!

Match Report: 2nd XV vs Chipstead 2nd XV

The 2s arrived at Ruxley lane on Saturday to an air of phenomenal excitement, anticipation and optimism. Off the back off a big win, the first home game in the league posed a real test against a Chipstead side coming off the back of a 73-0 slaughtering of Dorking. After a strong warm up involving a few new faces and new combinations, the boys were raring to go.

OH started the game as we had finished last week, on the front foot and looking to score. The first try came first and kept OH spirits high. Off the resultant kick off however, Chipstead made their intentions clear, they hadn’t come to Ruxley to take an early beating. The first 20 was fiercely contested with the teams going into the water break at 14-14. A quick re-group and OH were ready to go. By half time, after an excellent first try for Ben Ter Haar, the bonus point had been secured and OH were two tries to the better.

In the second half, both the depth and quality of the OH shone through. With very few changes initially the boys continued to dominate. On the 60 minute mark, the fresh legs came on, an immediate penalty for the corner and a driving maul put Dylan Wallis over for his second of the game. While OH had the game firmly in their hold at this point, the competitive edge continued. In one last twist and a moment of both excitement and madness, one over enthusiastic OH player flew out of the line and hit the Chipstead 10 with a poorly timed tackle and saw a yellow as a result.

OH eventually came out victors 36-24, securing a bonus point and laying an early marker down for our intentions in the league.

A number of lads put their hands up for man of the match but after one hell of a performance and a magnificent chip and chase try it could only go to one man.
